東京都内の多摩地域で生育し、その地区で生産・認証された木材を「多摩産材」と言います。多摩地域の適正に管理された森林から生産されたことが「多摩産材認証協議会」によって証明されたものが「認証材」となります。認証材は、森林所有者から製材業者までの流通過程が登録した事業者によって行われるため、多摩産材の産地が確実に証明されます。認証材には、証明書類が添付されます。

Everyday Facilities (Station Buildings, Libraries, Cultural Facilities and so on)

Lots of Tama lumber was used in the renovation of Togoshi-Ginza Station on the Tokyu Ikegami Line. The old station, which had been open for around 90 years, turned into a warm, friendly station building with Tama lumber used in the building’s interior and exterior finishing and the platform’s roof, reflecting the opinions of users and local residents, who wanted the renovated building to keep the feel of the old one, which fit naturally into the town.

Tama lumber is also used for nursery schools. Tama lumber was used for children’s desks and chairs at Tocho Preschool, which opened on the first floor of the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly building on October 1, 2016.

Woodwork and Handicrafts

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government carries out mokuiku projects, which promote interaction with wood in people’s lives, in order for children to feel closeness with Tama lumber and learn the roles of forests, appreciation for wood, and the meaning behind its use. A Tama Lumber Woodworking and Handicraft Competition has been held for elementary school children in Tokyo as part of this effort, and the prize-winning works are shown below.
