Not many people are familiar with camellia oil for use as a food, but in the past it was prized as high-grade edible oil. Camellia oil from Toshima Island is characterized by the fact that the whole process from seed collection and oil extraction to bottling is carried out on the island.
Camellia grow on 80% of the island's surface and Toshima boasts the first or second highest production amount of camellia oil in Japan. Camellia oil has obtained the Tokyo Eco 100 certification from the Tokyo Eco Farm Certification System and they are grown without using chemicals or chemical fertilizers. It contains a large amount of oleic acid.
