“Edo-Tokyo Veggies” Edo-Tokyo veggies are traditional vegetables cultivated in and around Tokyo from Edo period to around 1965.
While they nourished people since the Edo period, these vegetables almost disappeared from dinner tables for a time because of the reduction in farmland and their low harvest yields relative to the time and effort it takes to grow them.
Now, however, there is a movement to revive and popularize these traditional vegetables, so as to not let die out varieties that had been handed down through the generations.
You can buy these seasonal vegetables at JA shops and taste them at a growing number of restaurants that use them.
Here we introduce nine typical items.
