東京都三鷹市の根岸隆好さんは、ナスをはじめ多品目栽培で野菜を栽培し、庭先直売で農業を営んでいます。また根岸さんは“東京むさし農業協同組合“青壮年部の部長、地域の消防団、地域の新しいデリバリー“チリンチリン三鷹”などに関わり、多方面で活躍しています。そんな根岸さんに「これからの都市農業」についてお話をお伺いしてきました。

Mr. Negishi is active in many fields, but in particular he is involved in a variety of activities as the head of the youth division of the Tokyo Musashi Agricultural Cooperative Association. The organization's motto is "Let's all solve problems together," and with a "spirit of collaboration," everyone learns not only about agricultural production but also about management. They also held vegetable sales events in front of the station in order to "get local residents to think of farmers as necessary." “Besides farming, I wanted to do activities for the community,” Negishi said, “and before I knew it, I had become the manager.”

Multifaceted utilization of farmland

“The diversification of farmers is necessary for urban agriculture in the future,” says Negishi. He believes that ``diversification of farming'' means not only growing and selling vegetables, but also needing to provide benefits to nearby residents. For example, they hope to continue providing multifaceted benefits, such as teaching agriculture in schools, making fields available for use as evacuation spaces in times of disaster, and helping to conserve landscapes and the environment. In addition, Mr. Negishi has recently started a delivery service called "Chirin Chirin Mitaka," and the scope of his activities to contribute to the local community has further expanded.

Lastly, we asked them to share their thoughts on the ideal state of urban agriculture. Mr. Negishi said, ``It's important to connect with people, and it's important to be seen as necessary by local residents.''
